DJIBOUTI, 19 October 2026 (#ADI) – Djibouti opened on Monday a two-day forum dedicated to diplomacy, sovereignty and climate justice, with the ambition to make the voice of Africa heard in global climate governance.

Meeting at the Kempinski Hotel, officials, diplomats and experts are to discuss the place of the continent in international mechanisms to combat warming. The continent contributes very little to global emissions, but is one of the regions most vulnerable to its effects.

The meeting is organized jointly by the Institute for Diplomatic Studies and the Africa Sovereign Carbon Registry Foundation. This partnership aims to bring diplomatic thinking closer to technical expertise in carbon markets.

Three projects dominate the work: carbon sovereignty, i.e. control by African states of their credits and resources, mobilization of climate finance deemed insufficient, and defence of the interests of the most vulnerable countries.

The forum will continue until Tuesday.
